Right here we find two works by the Genoese architect, icons of the renaissance <\/span>of Zena<\/span><\/i>: the Bigo<\/strong>, a monument with its base in the water inspired by traditional loading tools equipped with a panoramic elevator; and the Biosphere or Piano<\/strong>‘s Bubble, a gigantic glass and steel sphere that houses inside a part of tropical forest and over 150 living species.<\/span><\/p>\n For those arriving from the sea, one cannot miss <\/span>the largest permanent exhibition<\/b> dedicated to this subject, the <\/span>Galata-Sea Museum<\/b>, which also houses <\/span>a full-scale Genoese galley<\/b>. Started at the end of the 11th century, in addition to the infinite pictorial works, it also houses the <\/span>relics of St. John the Baptist.<\/b> A few minutes’ walk and we are in front of the <\/span>church of San Donato, another prestigious example of Genoese Romanesque architecture with a rigorous and bare facade<\/b> with illustrious painted testimonies such as the triptych of the Adoration of the Magi, stolen and subsequently recovered in 1974. 300 meters further and it is possible to visit <\/span>Palazzo Ducale, <\/b>or<\/i><\/b> Paxo<\/i><\/b>, as they say around here, for centuries the seat of the doge of the Genoese Republic, now a place for exhibitions and cultural events. From the house where Christopher Columbus lived between 1455 and 1470, rebuilt after the <\/span>bombing of the city ordered by the Sun King<\/b>, Louis XIV, you pass through the <\/span>Porta Soprana<\/b>, one of the accesses to the city overlooked by two imposing towers. The gate bears engraved <\/span>the warning for those entering the city, which in summary reads<\/b>: be mindful of the spirit in which you enter, stranger, because based on that your destiny will change greatly.<\/span> <\/p>\n The first is the “youngest”, built in 1670 consisting of two noble floors for the two brothers Ridolfo.<\/span><\/p>\n Now <\/span>one of the most important art galleries in Genoa<\/b>. The second, commissioned by Luca Grimaldi belonging to one of the most powerful families, is also used as a museum. After the Congress of Vienna, Genoa went from being a State to a city, but this has not buried the vestiges of its glorious past, which are still very much present for those who wish to discover them. Especially for sea lovers, Genoa ends at Piazzale Kennedy and the streets leading from the motorway exits to the Boat Show and parking lots. It is the entrance to one of the seven city walls, that of Barbarossa, begun in the mid-12th century, still walkable and it is possible to stroll on top of it. The power and magnificence of the Genoese families who enriched themselves with trade becomes evident even today when, <\/span>in the historic center, you admire the Rolli palaces<\/b>. Marvelous elite residences whose name derives from the official lists, the rolli (in Italian ruoli, lists), in which, at the time when Genoa dominated the sea, they were drawn to establish where State visits should be held. Among the over one hundred Rolli, since 2006, 42 have become UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Not to be missed is the Royal Palace, built in the 17th century by Stefano Balbi, which became the official residence of the Savoy family, and today is a complex whose interiors have remained intact, from frescoes to stuccos, from paintings to furnishings. A walk along Via Garibaldi is a must, built in 1550 for the most high-ranking families with the intent of founding an exclusive area. Today it is also a World Heritage street and every house is worth a visit, here in the street renamed by <\/span>Madame de Sta\u00ebl, the street of Kings. Among the Rolli not to <\/b>be missed are <\/span>Palazzo Rosso (Palazzo Brignole Sale)<\/b> and <\/span>Palazzo Bianco<\/b>.<\/span> <\/p>\n
