Here, in our tourist marina in Genoa, we never stop thinking of new ways to bring more people closer to the fantastic world of boating. Partly because this is our passion, and partly because here, from our marina, among our moorings, we can see every day how the very act of sailing can bring great moments of happiness. And it is precisely for this reason that our Marina Porto Antico di Genova is among the organizers of the VSG Cup Championship, a decidedly different sporting event!
Introducing the 2022-2023 VSG Cup Championship
Usually, when talking about a championship, one refers to a tournament focused on a single discipline. The football championship, the volleyball championship, and so on. In the case of the VSG Cup Championship, however, there are 3 sports disciplines: we are talking about a tournament in which teams will have to compete in sailing regattas, in ski mountaineering races and in a golf competition. It is therefore not surprising that our sporting event spans across different seasons, as well as in different regions.
It will start here, not far from the moorings of our tourist port in Genoa, with the first sailing event on October 15. On December 10, it will continue with the first ski race in Cavalese, Trentino, with a second challenge on March 11 on the slopes of Bielmonte, in Piedmont. March 12 will be the turn of the Golf Trophy in Cavaglià, to finally return with the last challenge in the waters of Genoa, with three “Windward-Leeward” races.
A multi-event developed over the years
Beyond seasons, beyond the single sport discipline: the VSG Cup Championship is based on the love for nature, on the desire to have fun together. The first trophy was held in 2017, with an exciting combination of sailing and skiing. This year’s edition is therefore the result of a further evolution, embracing the water of sailing, the snow of skiing, and the green of golf courses.
A team tournament
The program for the new edition was announced on the occasion of the opening of the Genoa Boat Show. The competitions in the various sports disciplines will be regulated by the rules set by the respective Federations, and can be undertaken by teams composed of 5 to 12 members. The team that will emerge victorious, in the final award ceremony in May 2023, will be the one that has obtained the highest overall score across the three disciplines. But that’s obviously not all, as there will also be individual awards for the single competitions, for each different category. And finally, to emphasize that the important thing is always to participate, there will be prizes drawn for all participants.
Along with our tourist port in Genoa, among the organizers of this wonderful adventure, there are Oasi Zegna (EZ Real Estate), Golf Club Cavaglià, Evolution Project and Sailing Evolution Project, with sponsorships from major brands such as Rossignol Pro-Shop and Banks Sails.
