VSG Cup: The passion for sailing, skiing, and golf united in a team Championship dedicated to sport, fun, and respect for nature

Genoa, September 22, 2022 – The days are getting shorter, but the weather is still quite mild… at the seaside, you can still feel the summer air, but on the Alpine passes, the first snow has already fallen, and everything hints at the approaching winter… It’s nature marking its seasons! And for a self-respecting sportsperson, paraphrasing a famous proverb, “every sport has its season“!

Indeed… but what if we could put it all together in one grand circuit, where you compete in autumn but also in spring and, why not, even in winter? A single exciting multi-event that goes beyond seasons, where you can have fun with your favorite sports, each at the right time of the year, in the name of well-being and love for nature? The answer is yes, it’s possible!

From a perhaps crazy but exciting idea of some sports and nature enthusiasts, the first Sailing-Skiing Trophy was born in 2017, a competition that, year after year, has grown in all aspects, until becoming this year, with the addition of Golf, a true Championship across 3 disciplines, complete with an Organizing Committee.

Here it is, then, the VSG Cup officially in its first 22/23 edition in its new form!

A team sporting event, inter-regional and inter-sport, which aims to promote the passion for sailing, skiing, and golf among enthusiasts and amateurs, with 5 different competitions organized in Liguria, Piedmont, and Trentino, discovering different cities and regions of Italy.

The common thread is sport as a primary source of well-being and health, in contact with nature and the elements that characterize the 3 sports: the sea, water, and wind for sailing, the mountains and snow for skiing, the greenery, trees, and open air for golf. Fun and well-being while respecting nature! The goal is to stimulate teams to compete in different disciplines, rewarding those who manage to achieve the best overall results. The initiative is non-profit and has the sole purpose of promoting sport and inter-regional tourism.

Today, coinciding with the opening of the Genoa Boat Show, the Championship and its formula are officially announced.

“Grand opening” in Genoa on October 15, 2022 with the first sailing race, then the First Ski Race (Giant Slalom) on December 10, 2022 at Alpe Cermis (Cavalese – TN); third event, again with Skiing, for the Second Race (Giant Slalom) on March 11, 2023 in Bielmonte – Oasi Zegna (BI) and, immediately after, on March 12, 2023, the Golf Trophy at the Golf Club Cavaglià (BI). The second and final sailing race, closing the Championship, will be held on May 13, 2023 in Genoa, with three “stick” races.

Each sport discipline will be regulated by the rules set by their respective Federations. The championship, with teams of 5 to 12 members, includes the final award ceremony for the best teams in terms of overall score across the 3 disciplines, but also individual awards for single competitions in each category. There are also raffle prizes for all participants.
