A summer of sailing events in Genoa with the arrival of The Ocean Race Europe and the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour 2021
Genoa is preparing to host numerous sailing events such as the first edition of The Ocean Race Europe this coming June and the start of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour 2021 in August. Two events of international and national significance respectively that put the spotlight on Genoa as a sailing stage, celebrating its historic maritime traditions.

The port of Genoa, already confirmed as the venue for The Grand Finale – the final leg of the crewed round-the-world sailing race in 2023, will host the finish line of The Ocean Race Europe, the European ocean sailing event in 2021. The race will start in late May from the French Atlantic coast and will consist of several legs, concluding in the Ligurian capital in the third week of June.
The Ocean Race Europe is open to boats in the VO65 and IMOCA classes, and the VO65 monotype fleet will participate in a Prologue to The Ocean Race Europe starting from the Baltic Sea in early May. This sporting competition is not just a race between European cities, but aims to promote changes and improvements for a healthier planet by spreading sustainability messages.

The competition was created to bring together in a single event the three fundamental disciplines of sailing: offshore, inshore with monohulls and multihulls, and between windsurfing and kitesurfing foiling. The Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour 2021 will officially start from Genoa on August 27, will touch Civitavecchia and Gaeta to reach Naples on September 5. The second block of regattas is scheduled between September 16 and 26, during which the participants will move from Brindisi to Venice, stopping at Bari and Marina di Ravenna.

The titles for the new class will be awarded in this first edition. The European title in the Tyrrhenian block of races, with the Genoa-Civitavecchia qualification trial and Civitavecchia-Naples race, while the World title will be awarded in the Adriatic block, with Brindisi-Bari qualification and a race with ten finalists on the Bari-Venice course.

The regatta will be accompanied by parallel events that will give great attention to environmental protection themes; additionally, young people and school children will be able to try sailing thanks to the participation of the Italian Sailing Federation, which supports the event along with the European Sailing Federation and World Sailing.
