From our marina in Genoa, due to its strategic position, there is certainly no shortage of boat itineraries to explore in Liguria. The list of possible routes is indeed very long, starting with destinations reachable through short navigations, perfect for day trips. For those who moor their boat permanently at our marina in downtown Genoa (who are therefore looking for new ideas) as well as for those who are simply passing through Liguria, we have decided to create brief itinerary proposals, guides to discover the best of our coast. We want to dedicate this first piece to one of the most classic boat itineraries from Genoa, to discover the beauties of Camogli and nearby Punta Chiappa.

From Genoa to Camogli by Boat

Among the maritime villages of Liguria, Camogli stands out for its great beauty and the great maritime prestige achieved in past centuries. The “city of a thousand white sailing ships” is a classic destination for boaters departing from the marina in Genoa in search of nearby destinations: it is separated from our marina by a navigation of 11 nautical miles, to be made along the eastern Genoese coast: from the boat you will see many beauties of our territory, from the fantastic colors of Boccadasse to the views of Vernazzola, Nervi and Bogliasco.

Announcing Camogli to navigators arriving from Genoa is the view of the lighthouse and especially of Castel Dragone – also called Castello della Dragonara, which certainly deserves a visit. This medieval fortress was erected in the 13th century to defend the village from Turkish-Barbary pirates: given its position overlooking the sea, it offers unmissable panoramas, starting from the entrance courtyard, which also houses two powerful 16th-century cannons. Inside, exhibitions and displays of various types are regularly hosted.

A stone’s throw from the Castle is the famous Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta: as simple as the external facade is, so sumptuous is the interior of the religious building, with three naves richly decorated with crystal chandeliers, polychrome marbles and baroque-style frescoes.

From the Maritime Museum to the Social Theater to the Oratory of San Prospero and Santa Caterina, Camogli offers many attractions: it is certainly worth dedicating time to actual leisure, with a seaside walk and among the typical shops of the village, without missing the opportunity to taste focaccia (also in the cheese version), a Genoese cake or why not, treat yourself to a fish dinner, choosing one of Camogli’s seafront restaurants.

Navigating to Punta Chiappa

And if you intend to continue navigating, going beyond Camogli? Another typical destination for those who cast off from our marina in Genoa is Punta Chiappa, two nautical miles after Camogli: here a buoy field awaits boaters. Famous for the long tongue of rock that extends into the sea, it delimits the Portofino marine reserve as well as the Gulf of Paradise. Here you can visit the altar dedicated to Stella Maris, the destination of the famous annual boat procession from Camogli; or engage in small trekking activities, following the paths that lead to the discovery of the Portofino Regional Natural Park.

For diving enthusiasts who decide to navigate from the port of Genoa to Punta Chiappa, the opportunity is precious to discover one of the most beautiful diving sites in the Mediterranean, namely Secca dell’Isuela, off the aforementioned rocky spur. Awaiting divers is indeed a fantastic underwater mountain, whose top is located at 13 meters depth and whose base rests at 40 meters. A kingdom of groupers and sea breams, red damselfish, red coral and gorgonians, leading to a rare colony of false black coral.
