From your mooring in Liguria, departing from Genoa you reach Corsica, from here, with your own boat, a world opens up to discover.
The bays, beaches, and wonderful towns overlooking the ports make Corsica a place that seems made for boat exploration. Beyond the sea, we must not forget that moving inland we reach the mountains for walks and high-altitude excursions.
One must be cautious, sailing in Corsica with the mistral is no joke, therefore one must carefully plan itineraries to be prepared to take shelter. But knowing the coastline, there are many magnificent places where one can moor and wait for the wind to pass.
In this itinerary we will cover the part, sailing from East to West, of the coast that goes from Porto Vecchio to Sant’Amanza.
From Capraia Island the Corsican coasts are about 20 miles away, half a day under sail and a few hours by motor. To begin our exploration in one of the great classics of Mediterranean sailing
Continuing towards the Southwest, past the cape of Punta Chiappa, you encounter with a short journey one of Corsica’s wonders, the bay of Santa Giulia: white sand, crystal-clear sea, where you can anchor or moor using one of the available buoys. Santa Giulia offers good shelter from the mistral and winds from the III and IV quadrants, while to shelter from winds from the I and II quadrants it is advisable to stop in one of the nearby ports.
A few miles moving south of Santa Giulia it is possible to reach the bay of Porto Nuovo to shelter from the sirocco. Porto Nuovo is a wild bay without services but very evocative, where however one must pay attention to anchoring which will be somewhat complicated due to the varying depths of the seabed.
Proceeding south, absolutely not to be missed are two of the most beautiful bays in Corsica: Rondinara and Sant’Amanza.
Multi-awarded as one of the most beautiful beaches in France and Europe, the bay of Rondinara can host many boats at anchor, although recently the space for anchoring has decreased and one must respect the limit of the floating buoys. Protected from all winds except those from the East, you drop anchor in a sandy seabed ranging from 4 to 5 meters. The landscape is truly impressive, and you can take a walk immersed in nature in the company of cows or stop for an aperitif at the beach bar.
Last stop for this Corsican itinerary is the Gulf of Sant’Amanza. a dream bay for the color of the water, beaches and flora that surrounds it and also ideal for spending the night peacefully at anchorage. Sheltered from westerly winds, the bay guarantees excellent shelter also from easterly winds in its most southwestern inlet, where one must be careful of shallow waters.
