Living on the Sea, Anthenea’s Floating (and Self-Sufficient) House

Have you ever wondered what your life would be like if you lived on the sea? Not aboard your boat, but literally in a floating house. The French company Anthenea has tried to make this dream a reality by producing the first prototypes of a sea dwelling.

The project was developed to allow the owner to live in complete contact with nature. The house has a circular shape, reminiscent of a UFO, and features large windows to enjoy the view of the surrounding landscape. Glass panels are positioned on the floor to admire the flora and fauna below the water level.

The dwelling designed by Anthenea includes approximately 50 square meters of covered space. The living room features a circular sofa with seating for guests. The coffee table can be opened to form a circular sofa bed for two people. The owner can choose to have a shower installed to avoid necessarily using the one at the marina where the house is moored. The privileged spot for direct contact with the surrounding panorama is the kitchen, which offers residents the opportunity to enjoy meals in a context different from everyday experience. The designated place for relaxation is the solarium, located on the upper deck.

One of the most fascinating aspects of the floating house is its energy self-sufficiency. It runs on solar power, which powers all onboard equipment. Anthenea’s goal is to appeal to eco-friendly owners who want to integrate into their natural surroundings without polluting or exploiting non-renewable energy sources. It’s the best option for respecting ecosystems and achieving zero impact on nature.

The floating house can be moved with a small electric motor, allowing owners to choose which port to remain moored at. Obviously, the speed is quite limited, as the priority is to ensure stability on board rather than rapid movement.

Anthenea has designed its sea dwelling for private individuals, but it’s also suitable for use as a hotel, restaurant, or event venue. Since its presentation at the latest Salon Nautic in Paris, some companies have been renting it for vacations or organizing events. A study is underway to verify its usefulness for scientific studies of marine flora and fauna, to be conducted directly on the floating house. If you want to immerse yourself completely in marine nature, you know where to find your Atlantis-style dream.
