Ocean Race

Ocean Race in Genoa: Marina Porto Antico Official Parking for the Event

Genoa is ready to become the world capital of sailing: for the first time, the Ocean Race will visit Italy, and for the first time, it will conclude in the Mediterranean. Specifically, here, in front of the Ligurian capital, in the immediate vicinity of our Genoa marina. The city is, of course, ready to celebrate this event and this international sporting event with the honor they deserve, with a rich calendar of events between June 24 and July 2. On this occasion, the Waterfront di Levante, or the former Genoa Fair as redesigned by Renzo Piano, has been transformed into the Ocean Live Park. And we will also participate in this event: ours is indeed one of the official parking areas for the event, allowing easy participation in the many appointments of these lively days.

The ocean race

The Ocean Race in Genoa

The longest and most challenging event in professional sports, the toughest test in the world of sailing, a race famous worldwide, an adventure like no other: The Ocean Race is much more than a race. For many sailors, it is an obsession, and there are professionals who have dedicated practically their entire lives to it, improving day by day to aim for victory. The first edition of the Ocean Race took place between 1973 and 1974, and already at that event, there were 3 boats flying the Italian flag among the competitors. In the 13 editions that have followed since then – every 3 years – there have been 130 Italian sailors. It is therefore an honor that could no longer be postponed to finally host the final stage of this immense regatta, which started from Alicante on January 12, 2023, stopping in Cape Verde, Cape Town, Itajaì, Newport, Aarhus, The Hague, and finally Genoa, between June 24 and July 2.

There are two classes of racing boats allowed, namely the VO65 class of 65 feet and the IMOCA 60 class of 60 feet; in both cases, these are boats capable of covering, under the right conditions, more than 600 nautical miles in 24 hours.

Events at the Ocean Live Park

The racing boats are heading towards Genoa, and more specifically towards the Ocean Live Park at the Waterfront di Levante. This will open its doors on Saturday, June 24 – with free admission – knowing that the arrival of the boats is expected from the following day. There are many appointments not to be missed: the visit to the training ship Palinuro, of the Italian Navy; the concerts; the tennis and padel challenges; the opportunity to try various disciplines, from soccer to golf, from hockey to billiards, up to sports driving simulators and, of course, the opportunity to try sailing, starting for example from the Academy Mini 6.50 for those who wish to experience the thrill of sailing on a Mini 6.50. And there will obviously be the sailing events, from the parade of the Ocean Race teams to the Pro-Am and In Port Races.

Parcheggio MPA

Marina Porto Antico official parking for the event

To ensure the sustainability of the event, the Municipality of Genoa, in collaboration with Amt and Genova Parcheggi, has developed a mobility system to encourage the use of public transport to reach the Ocean Live Park and the Porto Antico. Thus, the parking at our marina, the very convenient Calata Salumi parking lot, has been selected as one of the official parking areas for the Ocean Race. Open 24 hours a day, our parking lot has over 230 parking spaces, is very convenient for the Porto Antico area, and will be served by special shuttles to reach the Ocean Live Park at the Waterfront di Levante.
